DATA CENTRE OPERATIONS ADMINISTRATOR (1 POST)

Job Purpose
Manage and maintain day-to-day activities and operations of the Data Centre, ensuring its smooth functioning by implementing backup and recovery procedures, running close-of-business and ensuring that the Data Centre procedures are properly followed.
Main Accountabilities
- Perform Data Centre operational activities, including close-of-business.
- Ensure adequate stocks of Tape Cartridges by making timely requests to Procurement and Facilities Management Department.
- Work closely with the Procurement and Facilities Department, Security Department, vendors, and service providers to ensure effective installation and use of all IT infrastructure, CRAC units, Fire Suppression Systems at various Data Centers.
- Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, storage systems, and networking equipment and undertake regular server and security patch management.
- Continuously monitor Data Centre infrastructure, log, and report resource usage, events, and alarms to ensure timely escalation and resolution of issues.
- Maintain and run data protection procedures by taking regular tape and disk-to-disk backups, and deposit tape backups at off-site storage to ensure availability of data for recovery purposes.
- Advise ICT management on all operational functions through the production of weekly status reports to promote prompt reporting of incidents.
- Maintain high standards of Data Center operating environment condition such as temperature, humidity, fire suppression system and cleanliness.
- Execute DR and BCM test plans for service continuity of information systems in the event of a disaster that interrupts normal Data Centre operations.
- Undertake routine system and hardware maintenance based on approved schedules and provide support to end-users by attending to requests assigned through the Service Desk or by the supervisor.
- Implement access control procedures for the Data Centre environments to ensure Data Centre security and safety standards are adhered to.
Qualifications and Experience
- BSc in Computer Science or related discipline
- 3 years’ relevant experience
- Grade 12 School Certificate with five (5) ‘O’ Levels (credit or better)
Key Knowledge and Attributes
- Knowledge of Data Centre Operations including daily, weekly, monthly, start of period and end of period operations.
- Experience with backup hardware and software such as Data Protector, Veeam Backup and Recovery, Auto Tape loaders, Nutanix Mine, HPE StoreOnce and Replication technologies.
- Problem solving skills and attention to detail to maintain a reliable and secure Data Centre environment.
- Experience with software-based monitoring tools such as SolarWinds and Manage Engine Application Manager etc.
- Experience with Project Management.
- Hands-on SAN/NAS/DAS troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with tape/disk drives and backup and restore technologies.
- Knowledge of applicable data retention practices and laws.
