Job description:

Overall Job Purpose

  • Reporting into the Superintendent, TSF and Dams Technical, the Civil Engineer, QAQC, is responsible for the compliance check of all construction activities on the TSF and water dams’ facilities, in accordance to set standards in the design basis reports, SOPs and other design documentation.
  • The role will work closely with the operations and earthworks teams to ensure deviation to set standards are identified early and rectified.
  • Undertake site inspections to ensure all design reduced levels are in accordance to the deposition and construction plans. The Civil Engineer, QAQC, is to work closely with the Planner, TSF & Dams, to ensure construction rates of rise and embankment construction progression are in accordance to long term, medium term and short term deposition plans.
  • Development of QAQC checklists and inspection sheets for use in all construction, earthworks and civil installation projects.

Specific Job Responsibility

  • Development, maintenance and actioning of QAQC documentation, checklists, inspection sheets and audits.
  • Ensure TSF construction reduced levels are in line with deposition and pre-set strategic plans.
  • Work with soils laboratory and international laboratories to coordinate laboratory testing of construction materials, including tailings.
  • Comply with site HSE standards and procedures;
  • Work with site surveyors to ensure all construction and development work is done in accordance to design specifications, including setting out of coordinates and picking up of points of interest.
  • Work with Planner, Civil TSF & Dams, to schedule geotechnical and investigation projects to ensure optimization of resource, timeline and budget.
  • Supervise construction contractors undertaking civil projects at the TSF and water dams. Ensure construction work progresses in accordance to design, schedule and budget.
  • Execute all investigation and civil projects with the assistance of Civil Engineer, TSF.
  • Develop and maintain QAQC database.
  • Prepare routine QAQC reports, to feed into the Senior Specialist, TSF and the Senior Specialist, Water Dams.

Job Specific Competencies

  • Geotechnical knowledge including laboratory testing of soils and concrete
  • Ability to interpret project schedules and budgets;
  • Have a strong understanding of construction and deposition standards in accordance to design basis reports and design reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite;
  • Ability to develop and interpret civil engineering drawings;

Experience required to perform in this job

  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in Project Management or Construction Management of Civil Engineering projects;
  • Proven experience of having worked with soils and concrete laboratory testing is a bonus;
  • Project scheduling and execution experience required;
  • Experience working with survey coordinates and reduced levels is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, Construction management or similar.
  • Eligibility for associate membership of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
