Job Summary
We are looking for a House Parent who is directly responsible for the care and well-being of the children in their home and indirectly for all the children of Wiphan. This requires living on campus with the children in the house you are responsible for. The House Parent is responsible for creating a home that inspires faith in Christ and where love is experienced. The House Parent will work to accomplish the Wiphan Mission to our children.
Responsibilities
· Provide basic medical care, report all medical concerns and advocate for any necessary care for the children.
· Encourage the children to do any required homework, assist as necessary with homework, report any significant education needs/concerns to the Childrens Home Administrator
· Be sensitive to issues related to a child’s background, providing a safe, secure home that creates the opportunity to address past experiences that may still impact a child’s self-image, behavior, faith.
· Report any issues of concern to the Childrens Home Administrator
· Encourage each child in their home to excel in the opportunities God has given them
· Follow all protocol related to disciplinary matters.
· Seek counsel from the Childrens Home Administrator and other appropriate leaders in caring for the children.
· Ensure that each child’s daily schedule is followed.
· Ensure the home is maintained according to Wiphan policy.
· Seek ways to improve the care of their children, always looking to learn to grow and improve as a care giver.
· Maintain the home according to all applicable policies.
· Read, understand, and adhere to the Wiphan Childrens Home staff Handbook.
Required Skills/Abilities
· Strong supervisory, leadership and conflict resolution skills
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Outstanding leadership skills
· Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with various age groups and have a high level of emotional intelligence.
Qualifications
– Devoted follower of Jesus Christ
– Minimum of a grade 12 certificate
– Proficient in English (speaking, reading & writing)
– Diploma or better in related field of study preferred: Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Nursing, Counselling will be an added advantage
– Marital status: Single mum/ Couple
– Christian, should be a committed member of a local church
– Minimum age of 40years
– Willingness to live in a Wiphan House
– Willingness to undergo training in First Aid and Psychosocial counselling
