Job description:
Overall Job Purpose
- The position exists to accurately produce and manage project schedules, resource allocation, and timelines to ensure the completion of projects on time through their life cycles.
- The Planner is critical in coordinating tasks, optimizing resource usage and mitigating potential delays.
Specific Job Responsibility
- The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include;
Technical
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules that outline tasks, milestones, deadlines, manpower histograms and S-curves
- Develop and maintain a master project schedule for all site projects.
- Liaising with cross functional Project teams and other related professionals to gather actual data, update schedules and develop reliable schedule forecasts.
- Monitor project timelines and make adjustments as needed to ensure completion
- Identify shortcomings and advise on action plans and on cost-reduction efforts
- Work very closely with Project leads to plan, schedule, and programme major projects with your desired Planning Program.
- Maintain accurate project documentation such as resource plans, work orders, labour, and expenses
- Monitor and analyze project effectiveness using qualitative and quantitative tools
- preparing and presenting internal and external project reports for stakeholders
- Prepare short and long-term resource allocation plans based on input from all key players and team members
Administrative
- Liaise with project request originators or executioners, commercial and other project stakeholders to ensure that project requests accurately reflect the specific actions necessary to complete the task effectively. Includes ensuring projects have all resources, i.e. materials, tool lists, drawings, labour to be executed effectively and efficiently.
- Carry out the necessary functions to ensure all ordering and expediting of materials for various projects.
- Work through project documents and vendor manuals to assist in planning, scoping and scheduling purposes. File/ record for future reference.
- Prepare weekly and monthly Project overview reports on section activities.
- Run project cost reports from Pronto for Management to review and make decision were necessary.
Interpersonal
- Assist in the preparation of technical procedures, work instructions, equipment and systems evaluations.
- Evaluate differences between actual work performance and work instruction estimates. Use this information to improve the quality and accuracy of project plans.
- Contribute to the review, development and implementation of systems, processes and plans that identify improvements to overall project executions
Job Specific Competencies
- Ability to show initiative and have good interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated engineering experience in delivering technically challenging construction works
- Proficient using either Microsoft Projects, CCS Candy, Primavera P6 or another relevant planning package– able to schedule and programme projects and create master schedules, reporting etc.
- A practical-minded hands-on approach coupled with excellent communication and people skills.
- Must have good communication skills in the English language with an emphasis on writing skills.
- Must be able to run planning meeting meetings with all stakeholders effectively and efficiently.

Experience required to perform in this job
- Must be familiar with safe working practices.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction/ engineering with more than 3 years in a project planning role
- Must have worked with recognised CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System), Pronto will be added advantage.
- Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Projects
- Competency in Microsoft Power BI and Excel and report writing
- Prior planning experience will be highly regarded.
Qualifications
- Must have Grade 12 Certificate with a minimum of 5 passes
- All qualifications must be certified by ZAQA
- Degree in Project Management, Engineering or Construction Management. Planning / Project Management certification will be added advantage
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications e.g. Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Power BI etc.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and having driving experience for 12 months.
