Role Overview:
The Litigation Specialist/Advocate will represent clients in civil, criminal, and commercial litigation matters while providing expert legal advice and advocacy. This role requires a skilled professional with a thorough understanding of Zambian legal systems, excellent negotiation and litigation abilities, and a passion for delivering exceptional legal representation.
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:
- Handle a caseload of litigation matters, including drafting pleadings, motions, and other court documents.
- Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and tribunals, ensuring a strong legal strategy.
- Conduct case evaluations, assess risks, and provide sound legal advice to clients.
Legal Research and Drafting:
- Conduct comprehensive legal research on statutes, case laws, regulations, and legal precedents relevant to cases.
- Draft and review legal documents such as contracts, agreements, and briefs, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare detailed legal opinions and reports for clients and internal use.
Advocacy:
- Represent clients in court proceedings, presenting arguments, examining witnesses, and ensuring the best possible outcomes.
- Negotiate settlements with opposing parties and explore alternative dispute resolution mechanisms when appropriate.
Client Relationship Management:
- Maintain effective communication with clients, updating them on case progress and advising on legal options.
- Build and nurture strong client relationships to promote trust and long-term engagement.
Compliance and Professional Development:
- Ensure adherence to all ethical and professional standards set by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ).
- Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and legal practices relevant to the firm’s areas of specialization.
- Participate in training sessions, workshops, and legal seminars to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution.
- Academic documents must be certified by ZAQA.
- Admission to the Zambian Bar and membership with the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ).
- At least 3-5 years of post-admission experience in litigation.
- Strong understanding of Zambian legal systems, court procedures, and rules of evidence.
- Excellent advocacy, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently under pressure and manage tight deadlines.
