Job description:

Purpose

The Area Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and productive supervision of drilling activities within the operation. They support the Shift Supervisor by providing technical guidance to the drilling operations team and overseeing all drilling activities. The role ensures compliance with established policies, practices, and procedures, with a focus on maximizing safety, efficiency, and productivity. All duties are carried out in line with company policies, management systems, and standard operating procedures.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
  • Support and promote a culture of “Safety & Health above all else” and environmental responsibility, aiming for zero incidents and accidents.
  • Inspect active areas for cracks, cavities, uneven ground, and other hazards, and implement measures to prevent equipment damage.
  • Stay updated with all SOPs and ensure they are correctly followed in the workplace.
  • Conduct thorough handovers to incoming drilling supervisors, highlighting safety concerns, discussing jobs and explaining daily plan.
  • Ensure employees’ behaviour meets company standards and address any issues as needed.
  • Actively coach the team, recognize and reward good behaviour and performance, and discipline as necessary.
  • Plan for team and individual results, delegate tasks, and provide effective leadership to build a strong employee culture.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and ensure high levels of quality and production standards.
  • Optimize the use of resources to achieve targets and goals.
  • Ensure the crew has the correct information, tools, and equipment to perform their duties.
  • Report any problems or unforeseen issues that could affect the plan to the shift Supervisor.
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity.

 

Qualifications

  • Grade Twelve (12) Certificate or equivalent
  • Certificate or Diploma in Mining Engineering or Equivalent
  • Supervisory Certificate will be a must
  • Blasting License holder
  • First Aid certificate holder

 

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an open pit mining environment.
  • Familiarity with the use of tools, fixtures and equipment for blasting aids
