Job description:
Overall Job Purpose:
To assist the Dewatering section in the handling, construction and maintenance of all dewatering systems as well as ancillary services, with the focus on all Boiler making activities and similar tasks associated within the section.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure statutory Compliance at all times and standard procedure task inspections.
- Ensuring that all maintenance, manufacturing, installation, repairs and projects are completed to craft standards and carried out in a safe and efficient manner, to ensure maximum reliability and uptime.
- Meeting set work targets for daily work group activities in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Achieving results through prioritizing activities, monitoring the progress of assignments, and holding self-accountable for the results.
- Motivate yourself and others in overcoming obstacles and achieving goals.
- Planning & assisting in laying out of work on new projects.
- Ensuring maximum plant availability and efficiency at all times.
- A proven ability to work with other disciplines to achieve minimal disruption to plant operating times.
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Specific Competencies:
- Proven experience with pumping and piping systems and mining dewatering, unplanned repair, manufacture and installation tasks on plant equipment.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan the construction or repair of dewatering equipment and related structures.
- Fabrication and Assembly: Cut, shape, and weld metal components to fabricate various parts of dewatering equipment. Assemble these parts to construct complete structures.
- Welding and Joining: Use welding techniques, such as arc welding, MIG/TIG, gas welding, and brazing, to join metal components and ensure strong, leak-free connections.
- Layout and Measurement: Accurately measure, mark, and layout the location of components on metal sheets, pipes, and other materials to facilitate precise fabrication and assembly.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance and repair work on existing pumping equipment as well as lighting plants.
- Quality Control: Inspect completed work for accuracy, structural integrity, and adherence to safety and industry standards.
- Testing and Pressure Testing: Conduct tests, including hydrostatic pressure testing, to ensure that the fabricated structures such as pontoons can handle the required pressure and fluid containment/displacement.
- Skilled in using various hand and power tools for cutting, shaping, and welding metal.
- Knowledge of metallurgy, materials, and their behavior under different conditions.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work in physically demanding and sometimes confined spaces.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations.
- Safety-conscious with knowledge of proper safety practices and equipment.

Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.
- Full Grade 12 certificate.
- Craft Certificate in Boiler making.
- Valid Zambian driver’s license.
- Must be a member of EIZ and registered with ERB.
