Job description:

Position reports to:                       Supervisor/Electrical Specialist

 

Purpose

To safely execute electrical maintenance work according to the prescribed standards ensuring the safety of self, equipment and others

Key Responsibilities

  • This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Participate in inspection of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, clamp ammeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system with the presence of the Artisan: Electrical or his immediate Supervisor/Specialist.
  • Plan for periodical unit checks, to prevent premature failure of the equipment.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Determine critical spare parts in order to generate strategic critical list and reasonable stock level for spare parts.
  • Maintain proper good housekeeping
  • Other duties as  instructed by the Supervisor

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Grade Twelve (Grade 12)
  • Craft Certificate from recognized institution
  • EIZ Membership

 

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience as a qualified skilled electrician particularly in:
    • 525 Volts Air Compressors and Blowers
    • 525/400 Transformers, Motors and Generators
    • 525 Standby Generators/Welding Machines
    • Fluorescent Lamp Fixtures and Flood Lights
    • Dry and Wet Precipitators and controls
    • Conveyor and pump drives including the starter and control panels
    • LV Variable Speed Drives, Soft Starters, Battery Chargers and Un-interruptible Power Supply
    • Overhead Travelling Cranes (OHTC) and Hoists
    • LV Substation and Motor Control Centre(MCC)
