Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia(CIDRZ)

Reporting to the Project Manager, the incumbent is expected to use Her/ his expertise to support the overall implementation and reporting of laboratory objectives of the project. He/ She will work closely with the implementing partners within the grant consortium led by CIDRZ and the AMR secretariat to provide expert technical support. She/ he will also provide technical support to sentinel site laboratory staff, analyzing data and providing feedback loops for improvement. Work with the project manager and M&E team to develop, implement, and provide input for quarterly reports.
Main duties
  • Participates in capacity building, including laboratory techniques, epidemiology and statistical analysis and training workshops for the AMR/AMU/AMC surveillance workforce in the country. Provides support to AMR surveillance sentinel sites to use AMR data in identifying gaps and support the sites to bridge the gaps.
  • Works with the project technical team to provide technical assistance to establish and make functional HH AMR/AMU TWG. Provides support to conduct and participate in HHAMR/AMU/AMCTWG meetings.
  • Provides technical assistance for laboratory assessments, renovation, refurbishment, restructuring and installation of laboratory equipment’s in surveillance sites.
  • Provides technical assistance in the development of the surveillance plans/guidelines/ SOPs and training in implementation of protocols, sample collection, processing, and laboratory testing.
  • Works with project team members and implementing partners to support government laboratories to ensure adherence to laboratory quality management systems across surveillance sites.
  • Supports preparations of standard operating procedures (SOP) including best practices as outlined in the country’s AMR/AMU/AMC strategic plan/ guidelines/protocols.
  • Works with the M&E Manager and Project Manager to support preparation and submission of AMR/AMU/AMC – related data and report as per the national, regional, and global standard and donor requirements.
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences is required. Master’s degree in public health/ epidemiology or microbiology or an equivalent is an added advantage.
  • At least three years of work experience in a competent microbiology laboratory is required. Advanced knowledge of medical microbiology methods and instrumentation is required.
  • Prior knowledge and implementation of QMS in a microbiology laboratory is preferred.
  • Experience working with government particularly Ministry of Health, and other related Ministries to support laboratory systems strengthening, and AMR surveillance is an added advantage.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate activities with government, stakeholders, and IPs.
  • Biosafety and biosecurity and how to apply its principles.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in an IT environment.
  • Strong coordination and interpersonal skills
