Role Summary
Reporting to the blasting supervisor, you will be responsible for safe conveyance, loading and detonation of explosives within the mine license area. Your duties will include but not limited to the following:
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure safe conveyance of explosives from the magazine to the block to be charged
- Ensure safe loading of explosives in blast holes as stipulated by explosives regulations and site specific standard operating procedures
- Conducting scheduled blasting safely and as guided by the explosives regulation and site specific standard operating procedures
- Report misfires and treat them as per the regulation and site procedure
- Report ALL incidents/accidents to the supervisor and document them in
- the template provided
- Any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequently required to walk
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
- Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
- While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually very loud
Experience & Qualifications
- Full grade 12 certificate
- MUST be a Zambian national and possess a valid Open Pit blasting license issued by MSD
- MUST have valid silicosis
- Able to read and write
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a blaster in an open pit
- Must have understanding of the various firing sequences
- Experience of electronic blasting is essential
- Able to learn and adapt quickly
- A manual class driver’s license will be an added advantage
