Our client, one of Zambia’s largest franchisee manufacturing carbonated beverages and non-carbonated beverages is looking to hire talent for the role of Business Development: Modern Trade. The successful applicant will be responsible for driving business growth and implementing strategies to enhance brand presence. Your expertise will help to forge strong relationships with key retail partners and optimize our clients distribution network.
Key Responsibilities:
Account Management and Relationship Building
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key modern trade partners (supermarkets, hypermarkets, retail chains, etc.).
- Act as the primary point of contact for all modern trade partners in the assigned area.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase market share within modern trade outlets.
Sales Planning and Execution
- Develop and execute monthly and annual sales plans in line with the company’s overall business goals.
- Ensure the implementation of promotional activities, marketing initiatives, and product launches at modern trade stores.
- Monitor sales performance and suggest corrective actions where necessary to meet sales targets.
Market Development
- Identify potential new retail partners and business opportunities within the assigned area.
- Conduct market visits to assess competitor activity, customer needs, and market trends.
- Create and implement strategies for improving visibility and product placement in retail outlets.
Inventory Management and Supply Chain Coordination
- Ensure consistent stock levels and timely delivery of products to modern trade stores.
- Collaborate with the supply chain and logistics teams to manage inventory effectively.
- Address any stock issues or gaps in availability to ensure products are always on shelves.
Promotions and Marketing Activities
- Coordinate and implement in-store promotional activities such as discounts, display setups, and tastings.
- Ensure the implementation of national and regional promotional campaigns at store level.
- Monitor and track the effectiveness of promotional efforts.
Team Coordination and Support
- Collaborate with internal teams, including marketing, operations, and sales, to align on strategies and goals.
- Train and guide field sales staff on modern trade best practices and product knowledge.
- Provide reports and feedback to the regional sales manager and other stakeholders.
Reporting and Analysis
- Provide regular updates on sales performance, competitor activities, and market trends.
- Prepare reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), including sales growth, market penetration, and inventory levels.
- Analyze data to identify business opportunities and areas for improvement.
Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in sales or business development in the modern trade/retail sector.
- Experience working with large retail chains or supermarkets is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets and growing market share in the modern trade channel.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate business goals into actionable plans.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of CRM and other sales tracking software.
- Must have a valid drivers license and be able to travel.
