Job description:

Overall Job Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to manage planned carpentry works which are directly under the department or under contractors and ensure that the work is completed within stipulated time frame, budgets and to OSD standards.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Measures, marks and arranges carpentry materials to established layouts based on drawings or instructions from the supervisor
  • Cuts and shapes structures, forms or other fixtures from wood, plastic, fiberglass or drywall
  • Perform on-site inspections, analyse carpentry construction/civils progress and report findings
  • Use various hand and power tools associated with carpentry works to securely build assigned projects.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues and develop and improve corrective action plans relating to carpentry works on the construction/civils sites.
  • Create wooden forms and or shuttering for the pouring of concrete where and when needed.
  • Ensure the accuracy of works by checking completed carpentry projects with tools such as levels and framing squares and correcting problems as and when needed.
  • Installation of windows and doors; timber, aluminium, steel and any other types.
  • Adhere to all building/carpentry safety codes and guidelines.
  • Maintain professional relationships with the Team, contractors and clients.
  • Support all phases of construction and civils in the carpentry department.
  • Work in tandem with other sections and department managers to ensure a smooth construction/civils process amongst the projects.
  • Any other duties as assigned by superintendent.

Experience required to perform in this job:

The job will require knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas:

  • 3+ years of carpentry experience.
  • Ability to interpret and build according to drawings, specifications, and other documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate
  • Trade certificate in carpentry
  • Member of the recognised and registered professional organisation
