Key Responsibilities

  • To identify, implement and sustain a global standards IT infrastructure through continuous improvement and new technology insertion as required to support strategic business growth;
  • Ensures that external service providers are aligned with MTN’s strategic business direction and leads the development of an effective relationship between MT and external service providers, growing the partnership by identifying and sponsoring improvement opportunities;
  • Identifying opportunities for technology leverage and innovation and thus contributing to MTN business strategy;
  • Aligning the organization towards the required new technologies, including with regards to required skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, big data specialization, cloud operations, enablement and security, migration/ hosting specialisation;
  • Developing & maintaining MTN Information Systems strategy (aligned to MTN business units)
  • Establish and enhance IS departmental goals, objectives, and operating procedures.
  • Assess and make recommendations on the improvement or re-engineering of the IT organization.
  • Influencing and managing legislative policy/changes;
  • Providing MTN Information Systems oversight (prioritization, budgeting, business cases, etc;
  • Defining & developing infrastructure/technology solutions roadmap (R&D);
  • Establishing and managing MT Information Systems Budgets and Forecasts; escalation of any financial issues;
  • Management and optimization of staff (assessing skills/competencies, forecast resource needs in terms of sourcing strategy with regards to people issues and skills and plan succession), including and all other resources within the Business Systems Support department.
  • Conducting External Benchmarking studies and research;
  • Ensuring that corporate governance is implemented and adhered to within the IS division;
  • Ensure robust network security (including communication lines and equipment), disaster recovery, business continuity plan and direct systems development and acquisition. Managing operational risk (service delivery).

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems/Computer Science with strong knowledge of programming and business analysis;
    MBA or Masters degree will be an added advantage;
  • Grade 12 Certificate (5 O’ Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics);
  • At least 12 years working experience, with at least 5 years experience in a strategic management position, preferably in an IT environment or in the Telco industry;
  • Advanced experience of managing and/or directing an IS operations, preferably in the Telco industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply IS to solving business problems.
  • A strong understanding of core technology including networks, OS, Storage, Database and of new technologies
  • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies;
