Job description:

PURPOSE

To lead a team of Technical Coaches in enhancing the technical skills and work culture of FQM Artisans in the Fixed Plant environment. The Coordinator will be responsible for designing, managing, and delivering coaching and training programs that foster high-quality work, efficiency, and alignment with the company’s People First Strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

Coaching & Development:

  • Lead a team of Technical Coaches to deliver effective, “on-the-job” coaching aligned with fleet maintenance needs.
  • Develop and maintain coaching materials, assessments, and tools for technical disciplines.
  • Conduct training needs assessments and identify skills or knowledge gaps across the department.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning through coaching methodologies and tailored instructional techniques.
  • Assess the effectiveness of coaching interventions and their impact on employee performance and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Team Management:

  • Supervise and mentor Technical Coaches to ensure high-quality training delivery.
  • Provide coaching to TAs and Supervisors to enhance their technical and supervisory skills.
  • Create and maintain strong working relationships with sectional heads to align training initiatives with operational requirements.
  • Manage training schedules and departmental rosters to avoid operational disruptions.

Records and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate training records for all maintenance employees in electronic and centralized systems.
  • Track training nominations, completions, and progress using the company’s learning management tools.
  • Ensure all interventions are documented, signed off, and comply with quality standards.

Safety:

  • Implement and monitor the Health, Safety, and Training Management System, ensuring compliance with all policies and standards.
  • Focus training efforts on safety and proactively address safety violations.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to both operational and behavioral safety.

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Create a coaching culture across the organization and upskill employees in coaching methodologies.
  • Champion technical excellence and provide visible, on-the-floor leadership in FQM operations.
  • Identify high-potential Artisans for development into senior roles and facilitate their progression.

Operational Excellence:

  • Use assessments and observations to identify skill gaps and create targeted interventions.
  • Ensure that coaching methods and materials provided by service providers are fully utilized.
  • Promote best practices across sections and drive continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Minimum Grade 12 (O-Level) Certificate.
  • Craft Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Trade Certificate.
  • Qualification in vocational training or teaching is an added advantage.
  • Valid EIZ license.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Advanced technical knowledge of Fixed Plant equipment (Crushers, Mills, Agitators, Autoclaves, Oxygen Plant, Acid Plant, Tailings Lines).
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver training programs, including needs assessments, planning, and evaluation.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of maintenance experience in a Fixed Plant Engineering environment.
  • Supervisory experience, including managing and coaching teams.
  • Familiarity with maintenance reliability processes (e.g., five whys, FMECA).
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (Pronto preferred).
  • Knowledge of condition-based maintenance and oil sample analysis.
