Demand Planner – Poultry Processing (Chicken Abattoir) Plant in Lusaka, Zambia
The Role
The Demand Planner will be responsible for forecasting poultry product demand and aligning production planning with market needs. This role is crucial for optimizing supply chain efficiency, minimizing waste, and ensuring that the right products are available at the right time. The planner will collaborate with sales, marketing, production, and procurement teams to ensure an accurate demand forecast and efficient production schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Developing and maintaining accurate demand forecasts using historical data, market trends, and
input from sales and marketing teams.
✅ Translating demand forecasts into a structured production plan, ensuring the abattoir operates
efficiently while meeting market requirements.
✅ Monitoring and optimizing inventory levels of fresh and frozen poultry products, balancing
availability with shelf-life constraints.
✅ Leading Sales & Operations Planning meetings, facilitating cross-functional alignment between
demand forecasts and production capacity.
✅ Working closely with procurement and farming operations to align bird supply with forecasted
demand.
✅ Tracking of demand planning performance, identify forecast deviations, and continuously refine
planning processes to improve accuracy.
✅ Act as a liaison between sales, operations, and logistics teams to ensure seamless execution of
demand plans.
✅ Identify and implement best practices to enhance forecasting accuracy and supply chain
efficiency.
Key Requirements
✔ bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or business administration, Operations or, a
related field
✔ 3-5 years of demand planning, supply chain planning, or inventory management experience,
preferably in food processing or FMCG sectors. Experience in perishable goods, especially poultry
or meat processing, is highly advantageous.
✔ Proficiency in demand forecasting tools, Microsoft Excel (advanced functions), and ERP systems
(SAP, Oracle, or similar). Knowledge of business intelligence tools (SQL, Power BI) is a plus.
✔ Strong numerical analysis skills
✔ Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills for cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder
