Purpose
The Driller is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Sandvik D25K drill rig in an open-pit mining environment. The primary task is to drill blast holes for mining operations while adhering to safety standards and operational guidelines. The role requires attention to detail, technical proficiency, and a strong understanding of drilling processes in open-pit mining.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drill Rig Operation: Operate the Sandvik D25K drill rig to drill blast holes according to specified patterns and depths as directed by the drilling plan.
- Pre-Operational Checks: Conduct pre-start inspections and routine maintenance of the drill rig, ensuring the machine is in optimal working condition before each shift.
- Drilling Accuracy: Ensure all blast holes are drilled accurately to the correct depth, diameter, and spacing in line with the drilling plan.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and use the necessary protective equipment at all times. Report any mechanical issues, safety concerns, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Site Management: Maintain a clean and safe work environment around the drilling area. Ensure all debris is removed and proper signage is displayed in high-traffic areas.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with other team members, including blasters and other drillers, to ensure efficient and safe operations.
- Equipment Monitoring: Monitor the performance of the drill rig and its consumables (drill bits, rods, etc.) to prevent breakdowns and ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, including hole depth, equipment performance, and any incidents or downtime.
Qualifications:
- Full Grade 12 certificate
- Technical training or certification in drilling is an advantage.
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating drill rigs, preferably the Sandvik D25K or similar equipment, in an open-pit mining environment.
