Job Description
Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Environmental Coordinator – FS (Fixed Term) to join the Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, you will provide expert guidance and support in environmental matters to all the activities (contractors) under the FS to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring all expansion activities are executed in an environmentally responsible manner that aligns with Barrick objectives and ISO14001 2015 standard.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct environmental assessments and audits to identify potential risks and areas for improvement for the FS activities.
- Assist in the development and implementation of environmental policies, procedures, and programs for activities that are currently not covered on site.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into various business activities.
- Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
- Stay abreast of evolving environmental regulations and industry best practices to advise on compliance strategies.
- Provide training to employees (particularly the contractors under FS) on environmental policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Participate in incident investigations related to environmental incidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Manage topsoil to ensure the resource is protected, development, implementation, coordination and monitor rehabilitation of all closed sites related to the expansion project.
- Ensure area environmental obligations are understood and accountable for ensuring compliance to mining environmental obligations.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Degree in Science or Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mine Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Minimum of five (5) years direct experience in environmental management in the mine industrial setting – exploration, including regulatory agency interactions.
- Proficient in ISO 14001 and certified as ISO 14001 internal auditor as an added advantage.
- Three (2) years of supervisory experience
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Project Management or proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Possessing a valid Zambian or SADC driver’s licence
- Must have good communication skills in the English language.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
