Job Description
Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Environmental Superintendent – FS (Fixed Term) to join the Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Healthy, Safety and Environmental Manager – FS, responsible for delivery of the various expansion Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), licensing and permitting, environmental management, clearance and rehabilitation of disturbed areas within the Project Department. The role will also be responsible for the development and implementation of the EMS to the ISO14001 2015 standard among the contractors.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure all the legal requirements for the various projects under the Project such as the ESIA, licenses and permits are implemented in accordance with the Zambian legislation and best practice.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory/government bodies, ensuring the organization’s adherence to environmental laws and regulations.
- Participate in all ESIA related activity (meetings, consultations) processes as a company representative.
- Review of all the ESIA documentation and preparation of the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP)
- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in accordance with ISO14001 standards within the area.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate environmental considerations into the Project Department, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct thorough safety, health and environmental risk assessments and provide strategic recommendations to enhance sustainable practices within the organization.
- Serve as the focal point for environmental audits and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives based on audit findings.
- Provide expert guidance on environmental regulations, industry best practices, and emerging trends to inform decision-making processes.
- Develop and deliver training programs for the contractor employees to enhance environmental awareness and compliance.
- Develop a strong working relationship with Contractors to ensure alignment with the Barrick environmental management system.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Degree in Science or Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mine Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of eight (8) years direct experience in working environmental management in the mine industrial setting – exploration, including regulatory agency interactions.
- Possess technical knowledge in Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of mining exploration activities, environmental and social studies, environmental management, environmental planning, RAP processes.
- Proficient in ISO 14001 implementation.
- Five(5) years of supervisory experience
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Project Management proven experience and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Possessing a valid Zambian or SADC driver’s licence
