Job Overview

The Farm Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the farm, ensuring effective production, quality control, resource management, and profitability. The role requires hands-on leadership, strategic planning, and technical expertise to manage staff, crops, and livestock efficiently while ensuring sustainability and productivity.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operational Management
    • Plan, organize, and manage farm activities for crop cultivation and/or livestock production.
    • Develop planting, harvesting, and breeding schedules to meet production goals.
    • Monitor crop/livestock health and implement disease control measures.
    • Ensure effective use and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment.
  2. Financial and Resource Management
    • Prepare and manage farm budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations.
    • Monitor expenditures and ensure profitability through efficient resource utilization.
    • Manage procurement and inventory of farm supplies (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, feed, etc.).
  3. Staff Supervision and Development
    • Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers, ensuring productivity and adherence to safety standards.
    • Assign tasks and manage work schedules to optimize labor efficiency.
    • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing training and development.
  4. Sustainability and Compliance
    • Ensure adherence to environmental, safety, and health regulations.
    • Implement sustainable farming practices to improve soil health, reduce waste, and optimize water use.
    • Maintain records of farming activities for compliance and reporting purposes.
  5. Business Development and Strategy
    • Identify new business opportunities to improve farm revenue.
    • Stay updated on agricultural trends, technologies, and best practices.
    • Establish relationships with suppliers, distributors, and industry partners.
  6. Reporting and Analysis
    • Monitor and report on farm performance metrics (yields, costs, labor productivity).
    • Provide periodic reports on production, challenges, and recommendations to management.
Job Specifications
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Animal Science, or a related field.
  • Diploma holders with significant experience may also be considered.
Experience
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in farm management or a similar agricultural role.
  • Proven track record in crop cultivation, livestock management, or mixed farming.
Skills and Competencies
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of modern farming practices, machinery, and agricultural technologies.
  • Financial Acumen: Ability to manage budgets, forecast expenses, and ensure profitability.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills.
