JOB PURPOSE

Oversees and coordinates company operations through supervision of Operations teams and oversees the integrity of the company.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to: General Manager

Main Duties, Responsibilities and Performance Indicators

Main Duties and Responsibilities  Performance Indicators (Performance measures)
1.     Plan teams’ schedules and estimate costs to ensure workflow meets required deadlines and budget. Average cost to produce each product (Kw/T). 

Output per hour worked (T/Man hour)

2.     Supervise and evaluate the performance of Operations teams and address any issues that may arise.

a) Production 

·       Average time per batch (production efficiency)

·       Tons of feed per shift (Mash/Pellet/Concentrate)

·       Kgs MP per shift (MP/SC)

b) Maintenance

·       Machine down time – 5% improvement

·       Spares availability – 0 stock outs

c) Logistics & Warehousing

·       Number of loads received per week

·       Receipt of Raw Materials – max 1% variation

·       Maximum load/offload time – 1.5 hours / 30T truck

·       Number of loads dispatched

·       Loading of correct feed – 0 errors

·       Number of loads per transporter

·       % on time

·       Number of delivery errors – 0 errors

·       Delays and complaints

·       Maximising efficiency in receiving, storing and loading raw materials and finished products.

·       Stock count accuracy – 1% variation

·       Minimise double handling of products.

d) Site and Facilities Management

·       Number of safety incidents/week

·       % acceptable quality RM & Finished Product

·       Number of security breaches/week

e) Production Planning

·       4-day lead period from order to completion

·       Ensure no stock out of RM or FP

·       Set min/max stock holding levels

·       Plan production to meet demand

·       Batches closed per shift

 

3.     Automation of plant project management Optimise and continuously track and monitor ERP production planning implementation.
4.     Monitor availability, movement, and requirement of stocks under Inventory Management Calculate/report The level of raw materials on hand compared to production needs
5.     Enforce Safety and Health policies, Procedures and Laws throughout the production flow. Incident Rate – The number of workplace accidents or incidents per period. 

Compliance with Regulations – Ensuring that the production process adheres to industry and government regulations and safety standards.

6.     Budget and Cost Control. Develop and manage the Operations departments budgets, tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Cost Minimisation 

Achieve 5% reduction on budgeted costs.

Feed Cost Efficiency

Cost per Unit of Feed: Measure the cost of producing a unit of feed and aim to reduce it over time while maintaining quality. 10% reduction on previous year.

Operations budget – by 15 September each year

7.     Devise and implement suitable internal controls and procedures for all Operations functions Review Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs), continuous training and implementation.
8.     Leadership. Overseeing and leading the Operations departments. The Operations Manager is a member of the Executive Committee (EXCO) Monitor team members to ensure department aligning with organisational targets. 

Appraise Direct Reports in a timely manner

9.     Liaise with other Managers to formulate objectives and understand requirements, and ensure subordinates understand and apply departmental goals 360-degree colleague feedback

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

1.       Minimum Academic qualifications: Grade 12
2.       Minimum Vocational/Professional qualifications Degree in Engineering or related field
3.       Minimum relevant work experience 10 years in feed plant management
