Permanent Position

Company: Castle Lead Works-situated in Kitwe Zambia

The primary function of the Health and Safety Officer is to continuously improve, maintain and enforce the company SHE Policy. To provide advice, expertise and training to enable company personnel and contractors to comply with the requirements of the Company. To identify safety hazards, evaluate risks for all activities, products and services, and the development of controls to manage and reduce these risks.

Education

Formal Education: Grade 12
Technical Qualification: Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management (completed)

Nationality: Zambian citizen

Experience

3-5 years proven Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge & Skills

Sound knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001

Key Responsibilities

1) Ensure a safe and healthy working environment without risk to employees and ensure compliance with all group and company policies and procedures.
2) Continuously improve, maintain and enforce the company health, safety and environmental policy. objectives, standards and procedures.
3) Conduct HSE inspections on a monthly basis and compile a management programs to rectify non- conformances.
4) Incident management and investigation – ensure that all accidents, near misses or incidents are properly recorded, reported and investigated
5) Facilitate occupation health surveys- ensure that related surveys are carried out per legal and procedural compliance.
6) Scheduling and analysing internal and external audits.
7) Ensure all employees are provided with the required PPE described in the PPE matrix for their respective jobs and train the employees in the wearing and caring of this.

8) Facilitate pre-employment inductions.
9) Direct the development and maintenance of emergency response plan in order to provide clear guidance for continuous improvement in Safety performance and ensure appropriate prevention and mitigation of safety impacts.
10) Coordinate the implementation of the SHE systems as per the certified standards required. (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001).
11) Provide SHE advice, expertise and training to enable company personnel and contractors to comply with the requirements of the Company SHE requirements and to develop the competence required to fulfil their roles and responsibilities.
