RECRUITMENT/CAREER OPPORTUNITY
HONORARY INSPECTORS
The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (“ZEMA”) is a statutory body established under the Environmental Management Act (“EMA”) Number 12 of 2011 whose mandate is to do all such things as are necessary to ensure the sustainable management of natural resources and protection of the environment, and the prevention and control of pollution.
Section 14 (1) of the EMA provides for the establishment of an inspectorate with the necessary technical staff and facilities required to administer, monitor and enforce measures for the protection of the environment and the prevention of pollution. Furthermore, section 17. (1) of the EMA provides for the appointment of Honorary Inspectors (HIS) by notice in the gazette, on such terms and conditions as ZEMA may determine.
ZEMA therefore wishes to engage, on a part time basis, the most suitable candidates as HONORARY INSPECTORS for the following districts/cities:
- Chambishi (x 1)
- Kasempa (x1)
- Sinazongwe (x1)
- Serenje(x1)
- Mumbwa(x1)
- vi. Lundazi (x1)
PRIMARY JOB PURPOSE
The main duties of the Honorary Inspector shall be to administer, monitor and enforce measures for the protection of the environment and the prevention of pollution in the designated area of operation.
The specific scope of work at any given time shall be specified in the Works Order issued by ZEMA Management.
MAIN DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
2.0 General Inspections;
- Compliance monitoring;
- Environmental Auditing;
- Response to Environmental complaints;
- Environmental emergency response; and
- Investigations.
3.0 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT
- A Diploma in science, engineering, social sciences or related field;
- Good communication (oral and written) and analytical skills;
- Demonstratable knowledge in environmental management;
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and
- At least 2- and 3-years working experience in a relevant field for Degree and Diploma holders respectively.
Further, the candidate must be a Zambian who is a self-starter, goal-oriented with demonstratable ability to perform with minimum supervision and must be residents of the area/town they are applying to serve in.
