DESIGNATION

The Infrastructure Officer is part of a small team to support the organisation’s social housing and infrastructure model to scale a project. S/he plays an essential role in the supervision of construction works on various project sites and provides technical support regarding our construction works. The post holder will assist the Project Manager and support the Deputy Project Manager in scheduling and monitoring construction works to ensure that the projects on site are executed by contractors according to specifications and timescales, against a tight schedule.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Construction

  • Support the design of appropriate buildings for the needs of our projects through co-design, commissioning and own design work.
  • Support the Project Manager and Operations Manager and in hiring contractors and choosing suppliers for the projects.
  • Travel to and supervise multiple sites to monitor the progress of construction work and performance of contractors at various sites to make sure they meet technical specifications as contracted and are operating with efficiency and to the highest build standards.
  • Assist the Project Manager and support the Deputy Project Manager in scheduling and monitoring the quality and timeliness of construction.
  • Assist the Project Manager and work with the Deputy Project Manager in preparing schedules, work progress, production and other reports to be submitted to stakeholders by providing necessary information on the progress of the projects.
  • Ensure maintenance of healthy and safe work environment on site by enforcing procedures and standards and complying with legal regulations as well as educating site workers on safety procedures to be adopted at the site, while making sure that they adhere strictly to safety standards.
  • Meet operational standards by resolving problems, contributing information to strategic plans, and identifying improvements.
  • Develop and improve architectural and engineering designs and develop BOQs for new constructions and rehabilitation works. Push for cost effective and environmentally sensitive material use.
  • Work closely with local stakeholders including Government Ministries, hospital staff and the community among others.

Organisation

  • Construction is integral to much of the work that the organisation carries out in Zambia: to be a source of technical advice to the organisation and our voice for sustainable construction in the health sector in Zambia.
  • Be a guardian for ethical and environmentally appropriate building design within the project team and across the organisation.
  • Play a key role in the running of the project team department.
  • Actively participate in the organisational life of the organisation in Zambia.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Educated to degree level in an appropriate engineering discipline: including architecture or civil engineering.
  • At least 3 years’ experience supervising construction projects on site.
  • Preparing and reading of technical documents
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Exemplary analytic problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent command on site
  • Competent in all standard office tools, eg., MS Office, but also CAD, etc.
  • Knowledge of the Zambian context
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Valid manual driver’s license
