The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), a Statutory Body established by the Government of the Republic of Zambia under Section 3 of the Civil Aviation Authority Act No. 7 of 2012 to provide for the regulation and promotion of Civil Aviation in Zambia, is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons who are ambitious, innovative, energetic and performance driven to fill the vacancy of Inspector Aerodromes Design.

The Civil Aviation Authority is inviting applications from suitably qualified Zambian candidates to fill the position of Inspector Aerodromes Design.

JOB PURPOSE

To undertake effectively the regulation of aerodrome design/operations to ensure adherence to National and International Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The job holder will be required to undertake the following responsibilities:

• Undertake airport certification, audit and surveillance of aerodromes operations and facilities to ensure they meet national requirements while following all phases defined in the aerodrome certification process, including all the required verifications.
• Undertakes effectively the regulation of aerodromes designs in order to ensure adherence to Zambia Civil aviation Requirements
• Undertakes effectively the provision of technical guidelines on structural/operational standards and aviation curriculum development in order to promote adherence to industry best practices.
• Undertakes effectively the zoning and land use in the vicinity of aerodromes in order to control developments in conformity with obstacle height restrictions and prevention of encroachment
• Undertakes effectively the approval and auditing of the airport safety management system and ensure that aerodrome operators implement a safety management system through a progressive implementation approach in order to minimize hazards and risks at aerodromes.
• Undertakes effectively timely development and implementation of individual work plans in order to monitor and evaluate performance.
• Undertakes effectively the management and continual implementation of the Aerodromes and Ground Aids (AGA) Corrective Action Plans (CAP), achieve Abuja safety and air navigation targets in order to improve the country’s Effective Implementation of ICAO SARPs.
• Undertakes effectively the management and monitoring of runway surface conditions, including the assessment of the surface friction characteristics of the runway and ensuring that the aerodrome operator takes appropriate action if necessary.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

a) Minimum Primary/Secondary Education:

• Full Form V /Grade 12 Certificate with minimum of five (5) “O” Levels with credits including English and Mathematics.

b) Minimum Vocational/Professional Qualifications:

• BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering or any other related qualifications
• The applicant MUST be a member of Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) with a current Engineers Registration Board (ERB) practicing licence.

c) Minimum Relevant Pre-Job Experience:

• 3 years’ experience in relevant field.

d) Core Competencies

• Negotiation skills,
• Computer literate,
• Analytical skills,
• Diplomatic, and,
• Familiarity with ICAO Convention, functions, standards and recommended practices.
