Job Title: Internal Audit Officer.

1. JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for ensuring the organization complies with applicable laws and regulations and has a sound system of internal controls that are always adhered to by everyone. The Internal Auditor assists the Board of Directors to discharge their duties through risk assessment and internal control reviews, reporting on material internal control deficiencies as well as recommending improvements.

2 PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
2.1 Internal Audit

  • Develop an Annual Audit Plan using appropriate risk-based methodology, and submit that plan to the Managing Director and subsequently to the Audit and Risk Committee for review and approval.
  • Implement the Annual Audit Plan, as approved, including, and as appropriate, any special mandates or projects requested by Executive Management and the
    Audit Committee.
  • Issue an audit report to management and any other relevant parties at the conclusion of each audit in order to communicate the audit findings, recommendations and management action plans.
  • Follow up on outstanding management action plans to ensure significant risks and major deficiencies identified are effectively addressed and remedied by management within a mutually agreed timeframe.
  • Prepare and present quarterly reports to the Managing Director and the Audit Committee summarizing the status and the results of audit activities.
  •  Identify key processes supporting financial reporting, assist business process owners to identify and document effective internal controls, and test key operational and financial reporting controls.
  • Investigate on suspected fraudulent activities within the organization and notify management and the Audit Committee of the results.
  • Serve as a resource to the company in identifying the need for and characteristics of adequate systems of control.
  • Keep the Audit Committee informed of emerging trends and successful practices in internal auditing.
  • Assist the Audit Committee in any other way in connection with the discharge of its duties and responsibilities.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Audit & Risk Committee.

2.2 Risk Management

  • Ensure risk management is embedded in all facets of the organization and cultivate risk awareness across the organization.
  • Ensure that risks confronting the organization are identified and adequately managed through effective risk assessments.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are efficient, adequate and comprehensive to effectively mitigate significant risks facing the organisation.
  • To maintain an up-to-date risk register for the organization and monitor the effectiveness with which Departmental Heads are managing risk and implementing corrective measures to identified risks.

2.3 Compliance

  • Ensure we have annual tax plans and manage them to ensure smooth tax periods.
  • Ensure timely submission of all relevant returns.
  • Ensure compliance with Industry regulatory requirements, Company legislation, Tax legislation, Social Security regulations and any other relevant rules and regulations.
  • Ensure all the compliance gaps with legislation are identified and mitigated.
  • To continuously monitor compliance issues in a proactive manner and give monthly and quarterly compliance reports to Management and Audit Committee.

3. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Internal Audit, Bachelor’s Degree in Business or other relevant qualification. Professional qualification (ACCA/ZICA/CIMA or other.) will be an added advantage.
  • Membership to the Institute of Internal Audits (IIA) and/ or Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), will be an added advantage.
  • Certified Information Systems Audit (CISA) or Certified Internal Audit (CIA) Certifications added advantage.
  • 2 years’ experience in the financial sector will be an added advantage.
