Job description:
PURPOSE
To perform a range of oil analysis tests (e.g., microscopic analysis, slide preparation, spectrographic analysis, crackle tests) as part of machinery condition monitoring and to assist in the coordination of laboratory activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures, and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment, and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function
- Methodology Development: Develop or refine analytical methodologies under the guidance of senior personnel.
- Lubrication Analysis Proficiency: Acquire and maintain comprehensive knowledge of lubrication analysis techniques and related instrumentation.
- Mechanical Systems Understanding: Maintain an in-depth understanding of mechanical systems and components.
- Sample Analysis: Analyze various samples (greases, transformer oils, industrial oils) using techniques such as Karl Fischer, Microscopic Analysis, Viscometry, FTIR, DGA, Dielectric Strength, Grease Consistency, RDE, ICP, and Dropping Point.
- Results Interpretation: Interpret analysis results and prepare reports accordingly.
- Staff Training: Assist in training new staff in analytical techniques and instrumentation usage.
- Good Laboratory Practice (GLP): Ensure compliance with GLP regulations and apply best practices in the laboratory environment.
- Oil Analysis Expertise: Maintain expertise in oil analysis and its role in predictive and proactive maintenance.
- LIMS Proficiency: Utilize Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) developed in Microsoft Access.
- Customer Relations: Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
- Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Minimum of a Diploma in Laboratory Technology or related Fields.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum experience: 2 – 3 years
- Previous work experience in a large copper mining operation and technical laboratory will be advantageous.
