Zambia Sugar Plc. is a subsidiary of Illovo Sugar Africa (Pty) Ltd Group and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.
The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position in Estate Support Services Department:

POSITION: LANDSCAPER x 1- PERMANENT – RE-ADVERTISED

The position reports to the Community Facilities Officer.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Ensure that each team member is putting on the correct job/task specific PPE all ALL times and work permit documentation adherence.
  • Provide SHERQ Leadership support to packs and gardens staff including PPE compliance, risk assessments, 4 steps to safety compliance, incident management etc.
  • Develop and execute schedules for maintenance of estate parks, gardens, and open space on the estate.
  • Build and maintain gardens, parks and other outdoor landscapes on the estate.
  • Ensuring plant growth, cleaning outdoor facilities and trimming overgrow hedges, lawn and tress.
  • Plan and supervise the daily work and performance of each employee/ contractor and assign work activities to achieve team and company objects safely.
  • Uphold the landscaping design and ensure plant growth monitor performance and support and advise teams in solving problems and/ or taking corrective action based on;
    a. Applying pesticides to remove harmful insects such as mosquitos, wasps and ticks.
    b. Applying fertilizer to help enhance growth and take out weeds and dead plants.
    c. General maintenance duties such as cleaning walkways, fixing fountains and other duties.
    d. Planting of new decorative bushes, flowers, plants, shrubs. Performing grounds keeping and building maintenance duties.
  • Mowing lawns using a push mower or riding lawn mower and brush cutters also tree trimming using chainsaws, wood saws, axe etc.
  • Provide work teams with necessary tools and equipment to perform work effectively and maintenance of such equipment.
  • Communicate with estate residents regarding scheduled and unscheduled estate maintenance activities in area of responsibility.
  • Identify and manage environmental risks and issues within the estate.
  • Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, competition Law and Anti-Bribery and corruption (ABC)
  • Ensure accurate record keeping of tools inventory, maintenance activities under packs and gardens for landscaping activities.
  • Generate Daily, Weekly and Monthly landscaping activities reports for community services officer.
  • Ensures resources optimisation including work-loading, overtime management and accurate man hours accounting.
  • Manage fixed cost budget for landscaping parks and gardens tools and equipment also generate budget inputs during budgeting.
  • Conduct periodic landscaping in packs and gardens also open spaces inspections and audits to ensure consistent beauty of the estate.
  • Ensuring that the tools used are in good safe condition and update records on all parks and gardens operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Diploma in Environmental Management, Horticulture or Equivalent.
  • 3 years’ experience in a similar environment
  • Proven work experience as a Landscaper
  • Must be able to operate maintenance equipment including Lawnmower, Brush cutter, Leaf blower and Hedge trimmer.
  • Strong knowledge on pest management and basic lawn maintenance.
  • Leadership capabilities to ensure a cohesive team; good communication skills to be able to interact with team and Estate residents.
  • Proactive, with good planning skills.
