Job Purpose
The Logistics Officer will oversee and manage company’s overall supply chain, logistics strategy and operations in order to maximize the process efficiency and productivity. Assist the GM in the sourcing of local and regional transporters

Summary of Key Responsibilities;

  • Lead the process of sourcing transporters/truckers at competitive rates
  • Responsible for selecting and maintaining vehicles in order to keep deliveries and distributions on schedule and within its established budget
  • Compile and update a list of top transporters
  • Planning routes and load scheduling for multi-drop deliveries.
  • Allocating and recording resources and movements on the transport planning system.
  • Booking sub-contractors and ensuring they deliver within agreed terms.
  • Coordinate and track movement of goods through logistic pathways
  • Execute logistics plan to move products and packages and ensure that they reach destinations on schedule
  • Manage transportation and storage Contracts.
  • Manage logistics payments.
  • Fleet management and maintenance.
  • Ensure all trucks presented to dispatchers have a live status before loading and throughout the trip after loading.
  • Maintains quality throughout the logistic processes
  • Oversee the transportation of goods from production site to consumer to client.
  • Develop and implement a logistics process.
  • Ensure goods are stored properly and at the right temperature.
  • Ensure consistent utilization of the tracking system and proper interpretation of reports and results.
  • Source and manage relations with transporters
  • Take part in all driver/transporter toolbox meetings to share meaning lessons on expectations as regards trip management requirements.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Strong technical understanding-trucking.
  • An analytic mind and good numeracy skills.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge.
  • Reasonable financial acumen.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the transportation industry.
  • Good intuition to make crucial judgment calls.

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Transport and Logistics Management or related
  • Must have a minimum of at least 3+ years work experience with a Logistics or Courier Company
  • Must have proven good experience in logistics and distribution management
  • Must be a member of ZCILT and CILT
  • Must have a Clean Valid Drives license
