Job Description

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Mechanical Engineer – FS (Fixed Term Contract) to join the Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for assisting the Lead Mechanical Engineer and providing coaching to junior mechanical engineers in the management and execution of maintenance projects within the Expansion Project area and across the site. This is to ensure maximum operational performance is achieved in a safe and cost-effective manner while ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, policies, legal requirements, and consent conditions.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Actively participate in identification and implementation of projects that demonstrate working in an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory acts and regulations and consent conditions and ensure that all relevant standards are adhered to in the project environment.
  • Actively participate in identification and implementation of projects that demonstrate working in an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure personal and team compliance with statutory acts and regulations and consent conditions and that at statutory for equipment are met.
  • Ensure controlled document management system is in place and maintained for all electronic drawings and equipment manuals.
  • Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness.   Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
  • Be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the team.
  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in Expansion mining activities, consistent with Barrick’s Community Relations Policies.
  • Become actively involved in Barrick’s aims and objectives of engaging with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people.  Promote the integration between this engagement and the success of the business.
  • Prepare and manage the budget for the function.
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of up to date job procedures for all tasks performed within the function.
  • Develop objectives for sharing common infrastructure and support services across Barrick and cascade this throughout function.
  • Ensure effective communication with delegate prior to departure from site.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Bachelor’s Mechanical Engineering
  • Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
  • Experience in the mining industry, with a focus on project execution.
  • Computer Skills – must have strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with mechanical equipment
