Job summary 
Reports to Senior Technical Advisor. The incumbent will provide technical assistance to PHO/DHOs in providing capacity building aimed at improving quality of care for HIV prevention, care and treatment for children and adolescents.
Main duties
  • Supports PHO/DHOs to achieve set targets on paediatric and adolescent HIV case finding, treatment, viral load coverage and suppression, retention and TB prevention and treatment.
  • Supports PHOs/DHOs and health facilities to review performance and to identify areas of improvement and institute remedial action
  • Provides technical assistance in conducting training needs assessments jointly with the PHOs.
  • Works in collaboration with other clinical advisors and PHOs to plan and conduct capacity building activities in areas related to paediatric HIV including but not limited to Comprehensive Paediatric HIV Care and adolescent HIV management.
  • Provides technical guidance and innovative interventions in resolving issues affecting implementation of paediatric and adolescent activities
  • Offers consultation on complicated cases to health care workers in HIV clinics
  • Guides clinical decision making in a professional manner to both mentees and other health care workers
  • Reviews complicated/difficult cases with the clinicians/nurses and guide on the best options available and need for referral/consultation
  • Guides on the assessment, recognition and management of advanced HIV disease using the recommended national guidelines
  • Keeps up to date and adheres to CIDRZ internal policies and procedures.
  • Drafts and submits activity, monthly, and quarterly reports as required.
Qualifications
  • Medical Doctor with additional master’s degree in Pedaitric or higher in the following fields: Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in program management and implementation of HIV and Paediatric and adolescent programs with donor funded organizations.
  • Familiarity with PEPFAR-funded HIV programs
  • Previous experience with and understanding of MOH health care systems at national, provincial and district level.
  • Excellent training skills in working with adult learners, particularly at health facility and community level.
  • Able and willingly to work flexible hours as needed without constant or close supervision.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Good computer skills, including competence in MS Office and internet/e-mail.
