Job description:

To be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing day-to-day activities that affect the EHS programs. The safety officer is responsible for developing and implementing a safe work environment, and performing safety audits and inspections in order to prevent injury to workers, damage to property and ensure legal compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform workplace audits and inspections.
  • Engage with site supervision and employees to continuously improve the safety performance of the work groups.
  • Implement approved safety plans and programs in the areas of responsibility and monitor employee’s compliance with safety policies and standards.
  • Conduct site inductions for employees and contractors.
  • Assist with the provision of site emergency services.
  • Motivate participation in pre-starts and toolbox meetings, SHE committee and H&S management meetings.
  • Assist in conducting safety trainings such as THINK!, Permit to Work, Energy Isolation and other compliance and competence courses.
  • Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments and track actions.
  • Workplace random alcohol screening
  • Promote workplace safety standards such as housekeeping.
  • Review incidents and assist in the development and implementation of remedial actions.
  • Participate in accident investigations as and ensure prompt communication of learnings to all concerned parties.
  • Must be Bolder, Driven, Smarter and willing to work with others (Together)
  • Enforce provisions of Mining regulations and Mines and Minerals act and other relevant regulations
  • Randomly conduct Planned Task Observations
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably requested of by the supervisor in line with effective operations of the Safety Department.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • NEBOSH Qualification
  • Minimum Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Engineering qualification and experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Metallurgy will be added advantage
  • Computer literate – Word, Excel, Power-point, Publisher, Power BI.
  • Conversant with Safety Applications such as INX Incontrol and other software applications.
  • Have a Zambian driving licence – Minimum Class C.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ safety experience within the Mining/Processing/Heavy Mining Equipment Machinery or Construction Setting
  • Knowledge of ISO45001.
