Background
Mafisa is strengthening climate-smart, productive pastoralist livelihoods in Zambia’s poorest and most climate-impacted regions. We are developing a replicable, profitable model that will help traditional cattle-raising communities to increase ownership, improve herd health and adopt regenerative rangeland management, and create fair market opportunities so they will have larger, more sustainable incomes.
Purpose
The Programme Officer supports the Field Manager and Area Coordinators in setting up and implementing the Mafisa scheme across the project area. S/he is responsible for ensuring the delivery of Mafisa services and the collection of data and reports from the community.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Mafisa Community Committees and any other community-based organisations to ensure community participation in skills development.
- Work with the Mafisa Community Committees, Hub Agents, Community Agents and the community to develop alternative livelihood activities that will sustain the hub operations.
- Assist in community mobilisation, and the organisation of community meetings.
- Support the Area Coordinators in planning and delivering animal health services, Rangeland and fire management and livelihood activities by: identifying the appropriate training for the Community Agents, Rangeland Field Monitors and farmers.
o Reviewing status reports
o Check inventory records of items used by the Community Agents - According to the agreed schedule, hold weekly check-in meetings with Area Coordinators to track reporting, service delivery and disease outbreaks.
- Where necessary meet with government extension worker in the community as part of networking and information sharing
Qualifications:
- Diploma or relevant experience in (international development, business, gender studies, social work, Community Development, or a related field)
- At least three years of experience in community mobilization or related fields
- Strong understanding of gender and power dynamics and their impact on women’s economic empowerment and rural livelihoods
