Job Summary
Report to Manager Provincial Laboratories and Lab systems Strengthening. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the effective management and utilization of laboratory logistics and sample management systems within the province. This includes overseeing the submission of viral load data, monitoring the availability of laboratory commodities, and ensuring the proper implementation of sample and result tracking systems. The role involves close collaboration with provincial health teams and partners, providing mentorship to healthcare workers on specimen management, and supporting the implementation of a Laboratory Quality Management System. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for reporting on provincial laboratory performance, identifying areas for capacity building, and ensuring that all testing activities adhere to established standards and protocols. The position requires active participation in provincial meetings and technical working groups, with regular updates provided to the Laboratory Systems Strengthening Manager.
Main duties
  • Ensure Improved specimens monitoring, and results return using digital solutions (DISA and Elabs):
  • Participate in all RTCQI program activities through comprehensive support, collaborative efforts, and Coordination:
  • Fosters close collaboration with the Provincial Biomedical Scientist (PBS), the Provincial CoAg Lab Lead and RTCQI Lab focal persons
  • Monitors the usage and availability of laboratory commodities used in viral load (VL) and dried blood spot (DBS) collection across all facilities.
  • Establish and implement systems for sample and result tracking to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Mentor facility healthcare workers on specimen management, including eLabs usage, collection, packaging, storage, and transportation.
  • Provides guidance on the completion of eLabs VL and DBS laboratory requisition forms to reduce sample rejections.
  • Ensures timely distribution of procured supplies to end-users.
  • Works with the M&E Officer to collect and analyze key viral load and early infant diagnosis (EID) indicator data
  • Provides regular updates to the Laboratory Systems Strengthening Manager on the functionality of the courier system, availability of consumables, and other lab commodities.
  • Strengthens laboratory capabilities to enhance laboratory operations and Quality Management Systems (QMS) trough Capacity Building and Quality Management mentorships
  • Identifies areas requiring capacity building in laboratory facilities and communicates these needs to the Laboratory Systems Strengthening Manager for action.
  • Supporst the Ministry of Health (MoH) provincial teams in training, certifying, and ensuring adherence to testing SOPs.
  • Supports the implementation of the Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS) in the province.
  • Works with Provincial Laboratory team to Ensure uninterrupted samples courier system    operations and monitoring
  • Work with MoH laboratory team to ensure Optimization of  Point-of-Care Testing to improve VL and EID coverage for priority populations, including children and pregnant women.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Biomedical Medical laboratory sciences from a reputable institution
  • Minimum of 3 years’ direct work experience in the Laboratory.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia a must
  • In possession of a valid Practicing License
  • Registration with Biomedical Society of Zambia will be an advantage.
