Job description:

Overall Job Purpose

  • QAQC Senior Chemist is responsible for the:
  • (i) Development and Maintenance of the Quality Management System to the best of laboratory practices,
  • (ii) Accountable for the development of up to date QAQC Standard procedures,
  • (iii) Coordinate the Laboratory QAQC by use of reference material, blanks and duplicates.

 

Specific Job Responsibility

  • Ensure that all personnel and visitors adhere to company health safety and environmental regulations and requirements of the department.
  • Administer and maintain the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Implementation and maintenance of a Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Ensure that all analytical results generated by the Laboratory meet the acceptable accuracy and precision standards by use of adequate quality controls.
  • Manage the Laboratory QA/QC by use of reference materials, duplicates and blanks.
  • Ensure availability of up to date Analytical methods and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure that all activities that may impact on the quality of analytical results are documented, validated and controlled.
  • Ensure that all daily, bi-weekly and monthly QAQC reports are generated and distributed to relevant personnel.
  • Planning for continuous compliancy and competency training and development of Laboratory personnel.
  • Conduct Certify all laboratory personnel in SOP trainings.
  • Ensure in – house and statutory calibrations of process laboratory equipment are conducted. (Balances, pressure vessels etc.)
  • Carry out internal audits of the laboratory so as to identify anomalous situations and institute corrective actions.
  • Coordinate laboratory proficiency testing activities.
  • Conduct all QAQC investigations for all non – conforming occurrences in sample preparation and analysis.
  • Perform any other functions directed by the Chief Chemist

Experience required to perform in this job

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a quality role in a Mine Site Laboratory
  • Valid driving license
  • First aid training
  • Training in LIMS
  • Training in Quality Systems
  • Training in supervisory skills

 

Qualifications

  • BSc. Chemistry
  • MSc in chemistry or related field an added advantage.
