Job description:

Purpose

To supervise and coordinate condition monitoring and lubrication activities, ensuring equipment reliability and availability. This includes implementing best practices, training staff, and contributing to S3 maintenance strategies and Asset Management Plans. Collaborate with the Reliability Monitoring Coordinator to achieve asset reliability and availability objectives.

Key Responsibilities

This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

1. Supervision and Team Coordination:

  • Lead and oversee the daily tasks of condition monitoring (CM) and lubrication technicians.
  • Distribute tasks efficiently, prioritizing critical equipment, and maintain effective team communication.
  • Evaluate team performance, provide feedback, and foster continuous development through training.

2. Condition Monitoring:

  • Manage and coordinate the execution of CM programs, including vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound, and oil analysis.
  • Review and validate reports from the CM team, identifying failure trends and recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to monitoring schedules across all assigned areas.

3. Lubrication Management:

  • Supervise lubrication activities, ensuring correct lubricant selection, application intervals, and techniques.
  • Update and optimize lubrication plans to reduce wear failures and enhance equipment performance.
  • Maintain accurate lubrication records for analysis and review.

4. Maintenance Planning and Control:

  • Work with planners to develop daily, weekly, and monthly schedules for CM and lubrication teams.
  • Collaborate with the Reliability Monitoring Coordinator to integrate CM findings and lubrication insights into maintenance plans.
  • Monitor task deadlines and equipment performance metrics to meet efficiency goals.

5. Continuous Improvement and Failure Analysis:

  • Participate in root cause analyses for failures related to CM and lubrication.
  • Propose and implement improvements in monitoring and lubrication procedures and frequencies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance.

6. Information Management and Reporting:

  • Prepare periodic reports detailing equipment conditions and recommendations for reliability improvements.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of condition monitoring and lubrication activities to support informed decision-making.

7. Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety policies during all monitoring and lubrication activities.
  • Promote a culture of safety by conducting inspections and ensuring proper use of PPE.

8. Team Development and Awareness:

  • Develop the skills of CM and lubrication technicians, expanding the range of techniques deliverable in-house.
  • Educate and raise awareness of condition monitoring and lubrication best practices across the S3 team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications:
    • Vibration Analyst ISO 18436 (Categories I, II, III)
    • Thermography (Levels I and II)
    • Ultrasound (Levels I and II)
    • Tribology Specialist
    • Rotating Equipment Laser Alignment Specialist
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in condition monitoring and lubrication, including 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience in the mining or mineral processing industry.
  • Proven expertise in fixed plant maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
