Job description:

Purpose

  • Facilitate and conduct training programs for students specializing in rigging at the craft level.
  • Deliver comprehensive instruction on the principles, techniques, safety practices, and equipment used in rigging operations, ensuring students build a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical applications.
  • Create an engaging and dynamic learning environment that integrates real-world scenarios, hands-on exercises, and interactive teaching methods to prepare students for industry-specific challenges in rigging.

This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures, and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and update training materials focused on rigging principles, techniques, and safety procedures.
  • Develop lesson plans, presentations, and practical exercises tailored to craft-level rigging training.
  • Deliver engaging and interactive classroom instruction on rigging theory, load calculations, equipment usage, and industry standards.
  • Provide supervision and guidance during hands-on activities in controlled environments, simulating real-world rigging operations.
  • Create and administer assessments to evaluate student comprehension, practical competency, and adherence to safety protocols in rigging.
  • Offer constructive feedback to students on their rigging techniques and guide them in improving their skills.
  • Emphasize and enforce safety procedures in all rigging training activities, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and assessment results.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Training Specialist or relevant supervisor to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Perform any other tasks or duties as reasonably assigned by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Minimum Technician Certificate in Rigging or Related Field
  • Teaching Methodology Qualification

Experience

  • Minimum of three years of industry experience in rigging operations, including load handling, scaffolding, equipment setup, hoisting techniques, and adherence to safety protocols in a mining, construction, or sector where rigging is critical.
  • Prior experience as a trainer, instructor, or mentor in a technical or vocational setting, preferably with level four (craft), five (technician), or six (diploma) students.
  • Expertise in creating training programs, developing lesson plans, and conducting assessments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of rigging principles, techniques, and equipment (e.g., scaffolding, cranes, slings, pulleys).
  • Familiarity with regulations, standards, and safety practices in rigging operations.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and motivate students.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and guide students during hands-on activities.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies in rigging and willingness to incorporate them into curriculum design.
  • Evidence of ongoing training, certifications, or professional development in rigging practices and teaching methodologies.
