IITA is seeking to employ the services of fully qualified and experienced Zambian national to fill up the position of Station Cashier at Lusaka Station.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Station Accountant and the Regional Hub Administrator of the Southern Africa Hub, the Station Cashier will be assisting in implementing a sound financial support system for IITA’s programs and projects in Zambia following the Institute’s standard operating procedures.

1. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare payment vouchers supported with relevant invoices.
  • File payment vouchers and receipts.
  • Handle petty cash payments.
  • Perform weekly petty cash reconciliation
  • Making weekly payments to casual workers
  • Filling NAPSA returns for casual workers
  • Prepare VAT exemption summary for submission to tax authorities.
  • Maintain documents movement register.
  • Assist in entering on a daily/weekly basis station transaction into the IITA accounting system.(Oracle Accounting package)
  • Assist in Travel Advance clearing.
  • Prepare fuel coupons upon arrival.
  • Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

2. QUALIFICATION and EXPERIENCE

  • A Minimum of a National Diploma in Accounting or any equivalent academic qualification.
  • A part qualification from the Professional Examination will be an added advantage.
  • At least three progressive years of experience in Accounting and Finance. Knowledge and experience in donor funded projects is an advantage.
  • Good computer skills in common word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel), and accounting software.
  • Good working skills in Oracle.
  • Minimum of three (3) or more years of professional experience in agriculture research.

3. CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Innovative, ability to work with minimal supervision in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure.
  • Fluency in English and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

General information: The contract will be for an initial period of three (3) years. Renewal is dependent on performance and availability of funds.
