Job description:

Overall Job Purpose:

  • To manage the activities of the Conveying and Belt Splicing section in order to provide support services to improve plant availability of the Sentinel Mine site.  This will involve maximizing the utilization of the resources to achieve cost savings, continuous improvement initiatives and utilization of synergies throughout the area.
  • This role will manage the activities of the Conveying and Belt Splicing to ensure the application of appropriate levels of safety and productivity are maintained in order to meet safety.  Cost and production targets.
  • This position shall also manages the belting workshop is an important facility established to provide Repair and Maintenance facilities for the Trident area

Specific Job Responsibility:

  • Planning & Scheduling

Ensure that your section works goes into a weekly and shutdown plan, provide coaching and mentoring to each team member as required. Review weekly plans to ensure that they are realistic and achievable. Attend the meetings with internal and external services provider as appropriate to ensure planning and scheduling alignment .Assist with the development of the section Capital and Operating budgets.

  • Continuous Improvement

Foster a culture of continuous improvement in the Belting section activities by encouraging and providing input on processes and support to all subordinates. These wins are to be communicated across the section and key players openly recognised.

  • Supervision

Provide leadership and mentoring for all area team members, including ongoing training and development, performance management, conflict management and crisis management. Ensuring the right people are in the job.

  • Maintenance

To be actively involved in the development and execution of breakdown, Shutdown and weekly tasks in order to support the business needs. Support other section supervisors, planners and the maintenance crews carrying out field work to meet the needs of the operation.

  • Liaison

Actively participate in all section activities, planning meetings, toolbox meetings and any other activities as necessary to promote excellence in communications. Liaise with other cross functional section in order to gain agreement on priorities to enable completion of set tasks in a timely and safe manner.

  • Technical Advice

Provision of technical advice for existing plant/equipment and development projects. Managing visiting consultants, Fault finding and failure analysis

Experience:

  • Minimum of the appropriate certification with experience in rubber, ceramic and belt splicing repairs both in the fixed plant and workshop relining environments.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in a maintenance role.
  • At least 3years in senior supervisory role.
  • Experience in high output workshops with a high aptitude in the rubber and ceramic initiatives required of today’s mining industry.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and Pronto or other enterprise systems.
  • Hands on skills and experience with large multi skill operations both ceramic & rubber being undertaken simultaneously within tight time restrictions exposure would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience with fixed plant maintenance management systems will be an advantage.

Qualification:

  • A minimum of the appropriate certification with experience in rubber & belt splicing repairs in fixed plant & workshop relining environments.
  • Minimum of grade 12 School Certificate or any artisanal trade certificate in mechanical.
  • A certificate from any accredited Institution certified in training and development of belt splicers.
  • Conversant with the operations of all types vulcanizing machines and identification of materials used in the belting section.
  • Registered as a member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Registered as a member of the Engineering Registration Board of Zambia (ERB).
